My week, before the T.H.E. Show Newport Beach high end audio convention, was highlighted by a visit from Stereophile Magazine Senior Editor and analogplanet.com Editor Micheal Fremer.
We spent a day together touring record stores in Los Angeles. I thought we could hit about 10. Mike showed up on time and we were off to a pretty good start but, I neglected to factor in that Michael has a serious vinyl habit: The guy had me scrounging at thrift stores. This was not on the schedule. Also, he never eats. I, at least, succumbed to my pastry and coffee addiction at Donut Friend on York Blvd.
Mike never thought about food. In my opinion, that’s a bad sign. Digging through bins drives my hunger. I think that’s a healthy sign. Over enough time, and records, I worry that Mike’s addiction could lead to skinniness, something I overcame in my thirties.
Michael had his hand-held GoPro video camera with him and over one hundred minutes of footage of us plowing through some seriously interesting Eastside record store bins is viewable at www.analogplanet.com. It’s a four part “series.” Maybe, you shop there, too.
